Back on home turf

What a day! Made it back to Norfolk to spend the day with Ron and one of his birding pals Tony, driving around the Broads and making a brief stop at a very windy Horsey beach before rounding off at Stubb Mill adjacent to Hickling Broad. The weather again seemed perfect and when a very unexpected lone Crane standing in a field caught my eye as we were driving along the Acle straight, I was immediately very optimistic about our day! Although we didn’t find the Smew that had been sighted the day before at Rollesby Broad and got blown sideways at Horsey Gap, our endurance was rewarded when we saw 2 further showy Cranes, at least 7 Marsh Harriers, 2 Merlins and my absolute highlight…3 Hen Harriers (2 female and 1 male),  all at Stubb Mill!
